Plastic Bottle Planters

Every year plastic bottles become a bigger problem and Belize is no exception. Whether we like them or not we use them daily somehow, from food to cleaning supplies and even health supplies come in plastic containers. At our rainforest property in Belizewe try to use biodegradable products when available and recycle our plastic bottles.  Finding ways to re-use and reinventing these bottlesat our Belize eco lodge is quite simple and easy.

An easy DIY project that you can use right in and around your own rainforest home in Belizeis using the bottles as planters. There are ways in making it creative for both you and your family.First idea is a crafty animal planter which can be great for the kids. The instructions for this is to cut 1/3 of the bottom part of a 2-liter bottle, your choice if you want to paint the bottle. Using the top part of the bottle you can cut out animal ears. Then draw a face and other features on the bottle and fill with soil and seedsor if you already have seedlings just place them in there.
Another great idea is plastic bottle herb planters, so you can grow your own organic herbs and have them readily available when cooking in your off-grid property in Belize

Use a 2-liter bottle and remove any label, then cut in half and clean the inside. Using the neck side of the bottle poke a hole through the cover if none just insert a strip of fabric but ensure the fabric is in contact with the soil and a piece is left hanging out. Next fill the container with your soil and seed or seedling. This top part of the bottle is then placed inside the bottom part of the bottle but not before adding in some water ensuring the piece of cloth reaches both water and soil.

So, there you have it quick and easy steps for reusing and recycling your plastic bottles in this beautiful Belize Eco-community. To find out more useful ideas for your plastic bottles uses you can visit us at Better In Belize Eco Village or email us at info@betterinbelize.com.
