Moving to Belize with your Pets

If you are looking to relocate to Belize with your pets then there are certain procedures that have to take place prior to moving. Bringing a pet into the country of Belize falls under live animal importation and is regulated by the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA).  Once you have purchased your Belize property and are ready for the move these are the simple steps to take to enjoy some Belize rainforest living.

Better In Belize Eco Village welcomes your pets once they are kept on leashes and properly cared for at all times. Before your move you need to obtain an import permit from BAHA via their website baha.org.bz for the most up to date import permit and information.  Ensure you obtain a Veterinary Certificate for Belize issued by a licensed vet in the country of origin within 14 days of entry.

In order for your pet to enjoy the off grid living in Belize ensure you obtain proof of rabies vaccination administered no less than 30 days, and no more than one year prior to arrival.  A tick and tapeworm test will also be required before entry into Belize.  On your application form is completed send it in to BAHA along with the fees and they will fax to you the permit. All fees will be charged upon entry to Belize.

Upon entry to Belize you will be able to take your pet to your Belize property, the animal will be moved to the quarantine section but once all paperwork is in place and there is a veterinary inspection you will be granted entry to Belize with your pet. If your pet is less than three months old ensure they are confined in your Belize eco home and they obtain their rabies vaccination.
